It's my party and I'll cry if I want to....

True to Form, Sadie spent most of her birthday party unhappy. She is secretly a very happy, fun baby but any time we need her to behave and have fun she refuses. We tried taking pictures of her and the cake but she put her hand in the cake and had a melt down when everyone laughed.
She had another meltdown when we tried to get her to eat the cake. Look at that face - it's like we are torturing her! Who would have guessed cake could be so offensive? Actually, I'm pretty sure she just hated all the attention....so after 30 seconds we gave up.
Finally we opened presents and she quite enjoyed that part of the party. Mike and Sarah bought her these cute blocks and she sat on the floor for a half hour playing with them. Thanks to Sarah for capturing a few smiles!
Overall, this past year has been the biggest roller coaster of my life. I've cried and stressed more over this one little person than I ever would have believed was possible. However, I recently found a book called, The Fussy Baby Book: Parenting the High Need Child and it's been very helpful. I've decided there's nothing wrong with me and there's nothing wrong with Sadie; she's just a child that needs a lot of extra reassurance and love and holding and attention and time and patience. Thankfully, we've both successfully survived the first year and things are already beginning to improve. Hopefully God will grant me the wisdom and patience I need to raise this passionate, adorable child!

Happy belated birthday, Sadie! And I love Dr. Sears--reading his stuff always makes me feel good about what I do as a mother.

Oh Alicia I love how you descibe
things!:) Her birthday sounds like it was a blast and the cake looked so awesome! She is so beautiful and I'm sad that we've never met. Maybe Sadie is getting it all out of her system now so she will be a wonderful 2 year old:) I just love you so much!

Oh, she is such a cute baby. I'm glad her and Sadie 2 are BFF and share toys and get to play together. Sadie 1 is going to teach Sadie 2 lots of fun tricks. Like walking. :-)
